Austin FC plays its last match of the 2026 season Saturday at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas: a 6 p.m. kickoff against the Portland Timbers, who can clinch a playoff spot with a win. According to ATX Things' read of the National Weather Service hourly forecast, rain odds climb from about 33% at kickoff to 54% by 9 p.m., and Q2 plays rain or shine. Austin is already out of the playoff race, so the stakes belong to the visitors, and the work for you is getting in and home dry.

What is actually at stake in Austin FC vs. Portland on Saturday?

Saturday is MLS Decision Day, the final round of the regular season. For Portland, it is a win-and-you're-in match. The Timbers are eighth in the Western Conference with 43 points, according to MLS, and a win at Q2 clinches a postseason place no matter what the other games do. A draw or loss leaves it to the rest of the league: the Associated Press reports four Western teams are within two points of Portland.

Austin is on the other side of that. CBS Sports, carrying the AP report, has Austin 14th in the West and eliminated. The club lost 4-1 at the LA Galaxy on Oct. 31, and the same report says Austin has conceded 63 goals this season, the most in a single season in club history. Portland's coach, Martí Cifuentes, was asked about it ahead of the trip and kept it simple.

"

In football and all sports, what you did yesterday is gone. You just have to push on and get the next one. — Martí Cifuentes, Portland Timbers head coach, quoted by the AP

What that means for a local: this is a match with one team playing for its season and the other playing out the string, in November, with a rain chance. If you are going, you are going for the last one of the year. If you are not, it is on Apple TV, per the Timbers' matchday page, and the local radio and Spanish-language details on that page are for Portland-area stations.

What will the weather do between kickoff and the final whistle?

The forecast below is the National Weather Service hourly forecast for the Q2 area, issued at 3:46 p.m. Friday. Hourly rain chances shift as the event gets closer, so check again Saturday afternoon.

Time SaturdayTempChance of rain
3 p.m.69°F13%
5 p.m.68°F13%
6 p.m. (kickoff)65°F33%
8 p.m.64°F33%
9 p.m.63°F54%

Source: National Weather Service hourly forecast, issued Nov. 6, 2026, 3:46 p.m. CT. A "chance" is not a downpour; the forecast calls it a chance of showers, and the illustrations on this page show a heavier rain than it does.

Pro Tip

Rain odds get worse the longer you stay. If the match runs the usual two hours or so, you leave around 8 p.m., when the forecast still reads 33%, and the 54% window starts around 9. Plan your exit, not just your arrival.

Q2's own policy guide says all matches are rain or shine, and points fans to the stadium's X account (@Q2Stadium) for weather updates. Umbrellas larger than 48 inches are on the prohibited list unless bought at the Verde Store. The guide does not say anything about ponchos that I could find, so I am not going to tell you they are fine.

What's the best way to get to Q2 Stadium on a Saturday night?

Q2 and CapMetro both push transit hard, and it is the easiest way to skip the parking lot on a wet night. Here is what each source says, with the numbers that matter. I have not driven or ridden any of it for this piece, and this desk does not have a mapping key set up this run, so there are no drive times here. Don't take a number from me; check the Transit app and Q2's pages below.

OptionWhat the source says
Red Line trainStops at McKalla Station, on the east side of the stadium. CapMetro says it runs special event service with extra trains on standby.
BusRoute 803 drops off in front of the stadium; CapMetro lists it every 15 minutes, while Q2's page says at least every 8, so verify in the Transit app. Route 3 runs its normal 30-minute schedule. Route 383 runs every 15 minutes between the North Lamar Transit Center and Pavilion Park & Ride.
Park & RideCapMetro's estimated trip times to the stadium: North Lamar Transit Center 11 minutes, Pavilion 22, Tech Ridge 35.
RideshareQ2 says Uber drop-off and pick-up is on the east side of the stadium on Delta Drive, reached via Metric. Its map graphic labels the drop-off zone as having no end-of-event pickup, so find the post-match pickup spot before you need it.
ParkingQ2 says to buy parking in advance and have the mobile pass ready. Lots open three hours before the announced start, which for a 6 p.m. match is 3 p.m.

If you are taking the train, CapMetro links a Saturday Red Line schedule for this match. By that schedule, trains from Downtown reach McKalla at 4:56 p.m. and 5:33 p.m. before kickoff, and the next one lands at 6:10, after it starts. After the match, trains leave McKalla toward Downtown at 8:06 p.m., 8:43 p.m. and 9:20 p.m., and toward Lakeline and Leander at 8:01 p.m., 8:38 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. I only read the printed Saturday schedule; I could not confirm what the extra event trains add, so treat these as the floor.

One detail from CapMetro's page that people miss: the platform closest to the stadium serves southbound trains, and riders going northbound have to cross the tracks at the designated crossings. On match days, CapMetro says its staff can guide you to the right train.

What can't I bring into Q2 Stadium?

This is where a wet-weather match goes wrong. According to Q2's policy guide, the stadium prohibits all bags, backpacks and other carriers, with exemptions after security screening for:

  • Clutch-size purses or bags equal to or smaller than your hand, about 8 by 5 by 1 inches
  • Medical bags
  • Childcare bags, such as diaper bags, when you are with a child
  • Cultural bags

Bag check lockers are outside the stadium at the Northwest and Southwest Gates, on a first-come basis, and open 45 minutes before gates. They are run by a third party, and Q2 says it is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Two other rules affect a rainy night: Q2 does not allow in-and-out re-entry on the same ticket, and strollers are allowed once cleared at security.

Heads Up

If you plan to carry a rain jacket in a backpack, you will be using a locker line you did not budget for. Wear the layer, or fit it in a hand-sized clutch.

What I could not confirm

  • Ticket prices. Q2's page points to SeatGeek for tickets. I did not read a price and will not guess one.
  • Where post-match rideshare pickup is. Q2's graphic shows a pickup location, but the text of the page I read does not name it.
  • How the extra event trains and buses are timed. I read the printed schedule and the service descriptions, not the live plan.
  • Anything from inside the stadium. I have not been to this match, and no one at the club or CapMetro has confirmed any of the above to this desk.
