9 Austin date-night rooms
Ordered by price band, cheapest first — the one thing on this page that is computed rather than chosen
How this list was chosen
The places are ours, chosen by hand with no score or dataset behind them. The order is not: it sorts on the price band shown on each card, ascending, so the cheapest evening is always at the top. Price bands are our read of what a night out costs, not menu prices, and every entry here is a sit-down meal or a wine bar.

What does a date night here actually cost?
The 9 places on this page run from $$ to $$$$, and the list is ordered cheapest first. Apt 115 and Wanderlust Wine Co. are the 2 wine bars at the bottom of the range; Jeffrey's, Lenoir, Uchi, Wink are the tasting-menu end. There is no middle-ground trap: the jump between them is real.
Which is the most romantic room?
Three earn it in different ways. Justine's Brasserie has dim light and a garden strung with lights, in East Austin. Uchi is a renovated bungalow on South Lamar with a secluded patio. Lutie's sits in the garden of the Commodore Perry Estate, which is the prettiest setting of the nine by some distance. Lenoir seats thirty people, which does most of the work by itself.
Where do I go if we mainly want to drink well?
Apt 115 is a tiny wine bar with a very long list and a record player, and it feels like being in someone else's flat. Wanderlust Wine Co. on Barton Springs Road is self-pour with 50-plus options on tap and a covered deck, and it also runs tastings, charcuterie, yoga and sound baths. Lenoir has the strongest natural wine programme of the restaurants.
What about a date night that is not dinner?
This page does not have one — every entry is a restaurant or a wine bar, and we would rather say that than invent a kayak trip. For a free evening, our free-things list covers Mount Bonnell, the Congress Avenue bat colony and the Greenbelt at dusk. For something stranger, the hidden-gems list has a backyard sculpture cathedral and a 1909 grocery store.
Do I need to book?
For the $$$$ end, assume yes and assume early: Lenoir has thirty seats and Wink runs a five- or seven-course tasting menu, neither of which absorbs walk-ins. We do not hold reservation policies for these venues on this page, so book through the restaurant rather than trusting us on it.
Where to go next
Rooftop bars
Drinks and a view rather than a table and a menu, almost all on downtown hotel roofs. No venue in common with this list.
A free evening
Where the cheap date nights actually live: the bat bridge at dusk, Mount Bonnell, the Greenbelt. None of it costs anything.
Health scores
No opinion at all: city inspection scores with the date each was filed. Useful before booking somewhere new.

What an Austin date night costs
The gap between the two ends of this list is the story. At $$ you are at Apt 115, a tiny room with a very long wine list and a record player, or on the covered deck at Wanderlust Wine Co. pouring your own from fifty-odd taps on Barton Springs Road. At $$$$ you are at Jeffrey's, Uchi, Lenoir or Wink — tasting menus, wine pairings, and rooms that seat few enough people to remember you.
The middle is where Austin is at its most characteristic. Justine's Brasserie in East Austin does French classics under dim light with a garden strung with bulbs. Ember Kitchen in the Seaholm District cooks Latin food over live fire. Lutie's sits in the garden of the Commodore Perry Estate and is, on looks alone, the prettiest room on this page.
What this page is not
It is nine restaurants and wine bars. It is not a list of things to do in the evening: there is no kayaking, no drive-in, no sunset hike and no speakeasy on it, and previous versions of this page claimed otherwise. If the evening you want does not involve a table, our free things to do list has the bat bridge and Mount Bonnell on it, and hidden gems has the odder corners of the city.
