Best Tacos on South Congress

Looking for authentic tacos in SoCo? Here are our top picks.

South Congress is one of Austin’s most walkable food corridors — equal parts tourist hotspot and longtime local hangout.

Pro Tip

Make it a taco crawl. Most spots on South Congress are within a 10–15 minute walk of each other, so you can split tacos and sample more places in one outing.

Güero's Taco Bar

$$

Located at 1412 S Congress Ave, Güero's has been serving Austin since 1986. They're open daily from 11am-10pm and have an amazing oak-shaded patio.

Note

Güero’s has been a South Congress anchor since the area’s pre-boom days — it’s one of the few spots that has survived every SoCo evolution.

The al pastor is incredible - perfectly seasoned with a nice char. Service can be slow during peak hours but the margaritas make the wait worthwhile.

Pro Tip

Grab a seat on the oak-shaded patio if the weather cooperates — it’s one of the best people-watching spots in 78704.

Heads Up

Weekend dinner and Sunday brunch can mean 20–40 minute waits. Parking along South Congress fills up fast — consider rideshare or side-street parking.

Expect to spend around $15-20 per person.
