Texas kicks off against Florida at 11 a.m. Central on Saturday, Oct. 17, in Austin, Texas, and Texas Athletics lists the game as sold out. Austin FC plays Vancouver at Q2 Stadium at 7:30 p.m. that night. Between them, a cold front arrives: according to the National Weather Service forecast we pulled Wednesday afternoon, Saturday is sunny with a high near 71, and the overnight low is near 51.
That forecast is the news. This afternoon's high is 94, with a heat index as high as 103 and a chance of storms. By Friday night the low is near 52, with north wind gusts as high as 40 mph.
Florida's own athletics site headlines the game as a "12 p.m. kick." That is Eastern time. Texas Athletics' game page says 11 a.m. CT, on ABC. Plan on 11.

What does Saturday look like hour by hour?
| When | What | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Friday night, by 11:59 p.m. | Cars off the listed campus streets and permit lots, or they are cited and towed | UT Parking and Transportation Services |
| Saturday, about 9 a.m. | UT gates open (two hours before kickoff; your gate is printed on your mobile ticket) | Texas Athletics fan guide |
| Saturday, 11 a.m. | Texas vs. Florida kicks off, on ABC | Texas Athletics game page |
| Saturday, about 6 p.m. | Q2 Stadium gates generally open, 90 minutes before the start and "subject to change" | Q2 Stadium policy guide |
| Saturday, 7:30 p.m. | Austin FC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC | Q2 Stadium events page |
| Sunday, 6 a.m. / 8 a.m. | Run for the Roses venue opens / run begins, Auditorium Shores | Livestrong |
The two games do not overlap. The practical problem is that the two buildings have different rules, and one set of habits will not carry from the morning to the night.
What do I need to know before the Texas–Florida game?
The ticket. The game page on texaslonghorns.com said "Sold Out" when we read it Wednesday. The university's rules say reselling tickets on UT property, at any price, counts as solicitation, and people doing it can be given a criminal trespass warning. If you are buying, use the official transfer in the app, not a stranger outside the gate.
The bag. UT's clear bag policy allows clear plastic bags up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches, one-gallon clear resealable bags, and clutches or wallets smaller than 4.5 by 6.5 inches. Diaper bags are on the prohibited list; the guide says to move what you need into a clear bag.
The water. One sealed, soft plastic bottle up to one liter is allowed. Other containers are not, and the guide names Yeti and similar bottles specifically. Water fountains inside are free for refills.
The rest of the list. No umbrellas, no signs or flags, no coolers, no outside food (medical snacks excepted), no re-entry once you leave, and alcohol sales stop at the end of the third quarter. With gusts forecast as high as 35 mph, a hat that ties on matters more than a banner you would not be allowed in with anyway.
Your entry gate is printed on your mobile ticket, and UT's guide says fans are required to use that gate. Check it the night before, not in the line.
Where do I park for the Texas game, and what can get my car towed?
UT's football parking page lists public pay parking in three places: the Health Center Garage, Lot 15, and Lots 18/92. The university sells that parking online ahead of time; we have not priced it and are not quoting a number. The Texas Facilities Commission also sells game-day parking in state garages.
The part that catches people who do not think of themselves as game-day parkers is Friday night. UT says vehicles must be off these streets by 11:59 p.m. Friday or they will be cited and towed at the owner's expense:
- San Jacinto Blvd. (Dean Keeton St. to MLK, and from DeLoss Dodds Way to 20 1/2 Street)
- Trinity St. (DeLoss Dodds Way to Robert Dedman Dr.)
- 21st St. (San Jacinto to Speedway)
- Robert Dedman Dr. (Dean Keeton to DeLoss Dodds Way)
- 24th St. (San Jacinto to Speedway)
- Speedway (24th Street to Dean Keeton)
The same rule applies to a list of university lots and garages, which concerns permit holders. If you park near campus on a Friday night, read the full list at UT's football parking page before you leave the car.
What changes for Austin FC at night?
Almost everything. Q2 Stadium's policy guide says it prohibits all bags, backpacks and other carriers, with exemptions after screening for hand-sized clutches (about 8 by 5 by 1 inches), medical bags, childcare bags when you are with a child, and cultural bags. A clear bag that passes at the morning game does not pass here.
The water rule runs the other way. At Q2, each guest may bring one empty drink vessel of 30 ounces or less, to refill at the stadium's stations. Sealed beverages are not allowed in, and guests are asked to pour them out at entry. Alcohol sales cut off at the 80th minute.
We covered the lots, the lockers and the Red Line at length in our Oct. 7 Austin FC guide. Two details are new for this Saturday:
- CapMetro's own page and the stadium's page disagree on bus frequency. The stadium's directions page says Rapid 803 runs at least every 8 minutes on match days. CapMetro's special-events page says every 15. That is the agency that runs the buses, so plan on 15. Our Oct. 7 piece quoted the stadium's figure.
- The Red Line runs its regular schedule with extra trains for the crowd afterward, per CapMetro. The platform nearest the stadium is for southbound trains; northbound riders cross the tracks at the designated crossings, and CapMetro staff are there on game days. Rideshare pickup after the match is on Delta Drive.

If you came from the morning game, leave the bag in the car or at home. Q2's lockers are first come, first served at the Northwest and Southwest gates, but a bag-free night is easier than a locker line.
How cold does it actually get?
Cold by Austin's standards, mild by anyone else's. The forecast we read has Saturday night mostly clear with a low near 51 and light north wind, 0 to 5 mph. Friday night is windier, with gusts as high as 40 mph, which matters if you are setting up anything outdoors for Saturday.
Forecasts three days out move. Check the National Weather Service for Austin/San Antonio on Saturday morning, and the stadium's @Q2Stadium account if the weather turns, since Q2's guide says all matches are rain or shine and points to that account for updates.
Is there anything worth doing Sunday morning?
If the front delivers, Sunday is the pick. The forecast has it sunny with a high near 76.
The Livestrong Run for the Roses is Sunday, Oct. 18, at Auditorium Shores, 900 W. Riverside Dr. The event page says the venue opens at 6 a.m. and the run begins at 8. Packet pickup is Saturday, Oct. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Livestrong headquarters, 623 W. 38th St. That is the same window as the Texas game. The page still showed a Register button Wednesday. We have not confirmed whether registration closes before race morning; check the page.
What we have not confirmed
We have not been inside either stadium this season, so the rules above come from the university's and the stadium's own pages, read Oct. 14. We did not check driving times, because no mapping service was available to this desk today. Prices for parking are not quoted. Texas's national ranking and Austin FC's playoff standing are left out on purpose: both move weekly, and neither changes what you do at the gate.
The forecast is from the National Weather Service's Austin/San Antonio office, pulled Oct. 14 around 4 p.m. Central. If it changes, we will say so in an update on this page.
For more ideas, our things to do in Austin page has the standing list. We publish twice a day, morning and afternoon, on what is open and happening: follow @austintexasthings.
