The Long Center's free weekly concert series, The Drop-In, has two Thursdays left this summer โ€” August 6 and August 13 โ€” before the H-E-B Stage goes dark until next year. According to ATX Things analysis, it's still one of the last true walk-up, no-ticket, no-RSVP-required shows left in Austin, Texas, and the lineup for next Thursday won't drop until later today.

What Is The Drop-In, and Who Played the Most Recent Show?

The Drop-In is the Long Center's free weekly concert series, folded this year into the national Levitt VIBE network, running every Thursday on the H-E-B Stage since May 21. The 2026 season books 23 different acts across the run, spanning country, psych-funk, blues and cumbia.

This past Thursday, July 30, brought a genuine double dose of Austin cumbia: Como Las Movies, the Austin quartet that's played SXSW and Austin Blues on the Green and describes its sound as pan-Latin "indie cumbia pop," was billed to headline with support from Los Desechos, a newer six-piece formed in 2024 that's become the house band for Hotel Vegas' Cumbia Night and channels chicha, sonidero and surf influences into original cumbias โ€” both confirmed on KUTX 98.9's own events calendar, the show's co-presenting station. It's a fair preview of the range this series covers most weeks.

When's the Next One, and Who's Playing?

Thursday, August 6, then the season closer on Thursday, August 13 โ€” both confirmed on the Long Center's own event calendar. The catch: the Long Center doesn't announce who's playing until the Friday before, posted on Instagram (@longcenter). Today is that Friday for the August 6 show, so the reveal should land on their feed sometime today โ€” worth a follow if you want the lineup before you commit to a Thursday plan.

Note

RSVP links exist for Long Center Members, who get early lawn access, a members-only bar and a shaded lounge with first-come seating. For everyone else, general admission needs no advance signup at all โ€” the lawn itself is first-come, first-served. Members-only RSVPs open each Monday at 10 AM for that week's show.

Do You Need a Ticket to Get In?

No. The "Get Tickets" button on the event page is a formality โ€” admission is free and open. Bring a blanket or low lawn chair (none are provided), and you're in. Leashed dogs are welcome on the lawn, and re-entry is permitted if you step out. No outside food or drink is allowed except one sealed water bottle, but the Long Center runs food trucks and a full bar at every show.

How Hot Will It Be at the Long Center Lawn on a Thursday Night Right Now?

Austin is mid-heat-wave: today's high is forecast at 100.3ยฐF, and the extended outlook has the city climbing back into the 105โ€“108ยฐF range by the middle of next week before easing slightly. Open-Meteo's early read on next Thursday, August 6, puts the forecast high around 101.5ยฐF โ€” a real number this far out, but one that can still shift as the week firms up.

Heads Up

Doors open at 7 PM, well before sundown in early August, so expect the first hour of any Drop-In show to still feel like the high 90s. Bring water beyond the one sealed bottle you're allowed to carry in, and claim shade along the lawn's tree line early if the heat is a concern for you or your dog.

The upside of an 8 PM show start: by the time the music's actually playing, the worst of the afternoon heat has already broken, and it keeps dropping through the two-hour set.

Where Should You Park, and What Will It Cost?

Straight from the Long Center's own parking page: the main option is the Palmer Events Center Garage (900 Barton Springs Rd, entrances off Riverside Drive or Barton Springs Road) at a flat $12, cashless. The One Texas Center Garage, reached off Haywood Avenue near Barton Springs and South First, runs the same $12 on a normal night (jumping to $20 only for larger ticketed events). The RiverSouth Garage, directly across from the venue, is pricier at $25. Valet at the Keller Williams Circular Drive out front runs $20โ€“$40 depending on the night.

Pro Tip

Skip the circular drive out front if you're driving yourself โ€” it's temporary drop-off and valet only. Park in Palmer or One Texas Center and walk in; both are a flat five minutes from the lawn.
