Shakey Graves plays a free, no-ticket show Thursday, Nov. 5, to open The Still Austin Quarter, a new bar and music venue at 4211 Willow Springs Road in South Austin. The Music Room holds 150 people, the first 150 in line get in, and after that it is one in, one out. According to ATX Things' read of the venue's own site on Nov. 3, doors are at 6 p.m. and Shakey Graves takes the stage at 7:30.

That cap is the whole story of the night. A free show by one of Austin's best-known songwriters in a room that fits 150 will fill before the music starts, and the venue says so plainly. Here is what the venue and the Austin American-Statesman have published, what we could not confirm, and how to plan an evening around it.

What is happening Thursday night at The Still Austin Quarter?

Two free rooms run at once, per the venue's event listing on stillaustin.com (read Nov. 3):

TimeRoomWhoCost
6 p.m.Music RoomDoors openFree
7 p.m.Vinyl LoungeAdrian Quesada, DJ setFree
7:30 p.m.Music RoomShakey GravesFree

The venue's wording on the Shakey Graves show: "No tickets, no cover." It calls the night the official opening of the Quarter, which has been serving the public since Oct. 13, according to the Statesman. Food and drinks are for sale. The Statesman's Oct. 20 story, by music reporter Mars Salazar, lists the same lineup and times.

One thing to know if you search for tickets: some third-party event listings carry the show under a "tickets" page and show 6 p.m. doors. The venue says there is no ticketing for this one. Trust the door, not the aggregator, and if the plan changes the venue says it will put ticket information up front before you make the drive.

How do you actually get into the Shakey Graves show?

The venue's rule, in its own words: the Music Room "is capped at 150 people, so the first 150 in line will get access to the Shakey Graves show. After that, we'll follow a one-in, one-out rule. So come early and stay late."

Read that as logistics, not a hint. A few things follow from it:

  • Doors are 6 p.m., the show is 7:30. The venue does not say when the line starts forming. We have not been, and we did not find a published answer.
  • The Vinyl Lounge is the other free option. Quesada, of Black Pumas, is spinning from 7 p.m. from the venue's collection of nearly 5,000 records. We could not find a published capacity for that room.
  • No reservations anywhere in the building. The FAQ is blunt: all spaces are first come, first served.
  • Shows are generally standing. A few may be seated; the venue says it will say so ahead of time.
Pro Tip

If you miss the first 150, the one-in, one-out rule means people leave during the night and the line moves. That is the venue's stated policy, not a promise about how fast it moves. Plan to eat or have a drink in the Atrium or Lounge while you wait rather than standing in a parking lot.

What should you know before you drive over?

The Quarter sits in The Yard at Elmo Arts in the St. Elmo District of South Austin. The venue says it is "15 min from downtown and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport." That is the venue's number, not ours; we did not time the drive and have no traffic data for a Thursday evening.

  • Parking: the venue lists dedicated on-site parking and valet. It does not publish the number of spaces. For a night capped at 150 in one room plus a lounge and a bar, expect it to fill; we can't say how fast.
  • Age: all ages, per the venue's FAQ. Age rules for individual shows are announced with those shows. Buying bottles requires being 21 or older with ID.
  • Bags: the venue says bag rules for shows will be shared ahead of time and, "when in doubt, keep it small." Nothing was posted for Thursday when we read the page.
  • Pets: leashed pets are welcome on the patio.
  • Weather: Open-Meteo's forecast for Austin on Thursday (pulled Nov. 3) is a high near 82 and a low near 53, with about a 1% chance of rain. Tuesday is the wet day. Thursday looks dry for a patio and a line.
  • Smoking: not allowed on the property; the venue points to the alley or out front past the lot.
Heads Up

Check the venue's hours before you go Wednesday. At the time we read its page on Nov. 3, the site listed Wednesday, Nov. 4 as 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. instead of the usual 10 p.m. close. It did not say why. Thursday is listed at the normal noon to 10 p.m.

What is the Still Austin Quarter, and who runs it?

It is the new home of Still Austin Whiskey Co., the Austin distillery. The venue describes it as a cocktail bar, a listening lounge, a stage, a bottle shop and the distillery on one address. The Statesman puts the complex at 15,000 square feet.

According to the venue's site, there are six pieces: the Music Room (the stage, with acoustics by Steven Durr), the Atrium (the front-door bar), the Vinyl Lounge, the Bottle Shop, distillery tours (a 60-minute tour is listed at $30 for adults; a 90-minute Saturday "Grain to Glass" tour at $55) and private events.

The bar menu is built on the distillery's own whiskey. The venue's page lists an Old Fashioned, a Boulevardier, an Espresso Martini and a Hill Country Sour, all made with its "The Musician" straight bourbon. The kitchen makes shareable plates and bar bites and stops serving an hour before close. We have not eaten there and did not read prices off the menu PDFs, so we are not quoting any.

"

I could not be more excited to open The Still Austin Quarter. It stands as a celebration of the artists who have made our city so special.

That is Chris Seals, co-founder and CEO of Still Austin, from an October news release quoted by the Statesman.

What is on the rest of the Quarter's calendar?

The grand opening is the big night, but the venue's current schedule is all free and runs most weekends. From stillaustin.com on Nov. 3:

DateMusic RoomVinyl Lounge (7 p.m.)
Fri, Nov. 6Caroline Hale, 8 p.m.DJ Suspiros
Sat, Nov. 7Curtis Lee & Sugar Trio, 8 p.m.DJ Tropicana Joe
Fri, Nov. 13Elijah Ford, 8 p.m.DJ Dug Fresh

The Statesman's Oct. 20 list also named Gran Moreno and Flavor Saver for Nov. 14 and Louisiana Surf Department for Nov. 21. Neither appeared on the venue's own calendar when we read it, so check before you plan around them. The venue's FAQ says there is currently no cover or ticketing at all and that more shows will be announced.

If you are choosing between this and the other big event of the week, our guide to the Austin Food & Wine Festival at Auditorium Shores covers that weekend's logistics. For more of what is open and happening, see things to do in Austin and our Austin bar data.

FAQ

Is the Shakey Graves show at The Still Austin Quarter really free? Yes, per the venue. Its own listing says "No tickets, no cover" for Thursday, Nov. 5. Food and drinks are sold separately. How we reported this

We read The Still Austin Quarter's own page (stillaustin.com/still-austin-quarter) on Nov. 3, 2026, and the Austin American-Statesman's Oct. 20, 2026 story by Mars Salazar. We pulled the weather from Open-Meteo on Nov. 3. We have not been to the Quarter, did not verify hours or addresses through a mapping service, and did not time any drive. Anything the venue says about itself is attributed to it. If something here is out of date, the venue's site and its Instagram, @stillatx, are the source of truth.

This desk publishes twice a day, morning and afternoon, on what is open, happening and worth the drive. Follow @austintexasthings for tomorrow's.
